Caster Clubhouse is a blog about the trading card game known as MetaZoo. Home to articles, news, guides, freebies and other awesome things to help you play and collect the game, Caster Clubhouse is both a love letter and callback to a more old-school age of the internet, where fandom and communities didn’t live solely on the same five websites – that’s why it’s a clubhouse!
Who is Alex?
Hi, I’m Alex (they/them pronouns, please!), AKA EnbyCaster, Mx_Alex, or MxAlexBC. I’m a Apprentice MetaZoologist who’s been playing MetaZoo since the 1st Edition release of their inaugural Cryptid Nation set. I passed my MetaZoologist exam and became a certified judge in January of 2023, and began running in-person events later that summer in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada.
Asides from creating Caster Clubhouse and its various side projects, I also serve as the original administrator and main editor of the unofficial MetaZoo Wiki hosted on Fandom.com, to help promote the game and share information between fans. My other claim to MetaZoo fame is canonizing MetaZoo’s fandom tag on Archive of Our Own when I wrote the first MetaZoo fanfiction ever, The Long Road Home.
What is Caster Clubhouse?
Though now a blog, some people may recognize Caster Clubhouse as a domain I used to try and start a MetaZoo forum in early 2023. Since the community isn’t quite large or active enough to support a forum just yet, I decided to switch Caster Clubhouse to a blog in order to host freebies and articles I’ve done for MetaZoo!
Though Caster Clubhouse is primarily my personal blog for sharing my love of MetaZoo with the world, it does occasionally host guest writers when the opportunity arises! If you’re interested in contributing something to the club, contact me.
What is MetaZoo?
Don’t know what MetaZoo is? That’s what I’m here for! MetaZoo is a trading card game (think Magic: The Gathering, the Pokémon TCG, or Yu-Gi-Oh!) based on cryptids, folklore, and local mythology that utilizes unique fourth-wall mechanics – making it the only collectible trading card game where your surroundings matter!
Set in a world gone post-apocalyptic after the veil between the magic and mundane realms shattered, players take on the roles of magical Casters, battling each other with the aid of spells, artifacts, potions, and Beastie creatures. While your deck represents your Spellbook, and the cards represent the Pages within it, your actions also affect the game – a more powerful ability may only activate if you’re wearing a hat or have a plant with you. Some may require it to be a certain time of day, or for you to be wearing a certain colour of clothing, while others will ask you to caw like a bird or say a phrase before you can play them!
MetaZoo isn’t a game for everyone, but for the player who wants something different, MetaZoo is the way to go. It’s challenging, it’s dynamic, and most of all – it’s fun.
